We all know the usefulness of posting your stream link to services like Twitter and Facebook when you start your stream. It makes it easier for people to know your streaming and to find your stream. Today we’re going to be looking at ways to better automate this process and make it as handsfree as possible with Twitch and IFTTT or If This, Than That.
What is IFTTT?
IFTTT is a free service that allows you to create things called applets to automate certain processes. Essentially it tracks an event, and if that event is true, it performs an action. If This, thanĀ that. Creating an account is a simple enough thing to do, so we won’t be covering that. Once you’ve created an account, head on over to create to start automating your twitch stream marketing.
Posting Your Twitch Link To Twitter With IFTTT
To start off, make sure you see a screen like the one below. This is the start of your new applet.
Click on the add button on the “If This” panel to add your event. In this case, we want to start the automation when our Twitch stream goes live. So in the search bar in the next screen, type in “Twitch” and select it. You should see a screen like this:
Select the one labeled “New stream started by you”. This will trigger when we have started streaming. Once selected, a new window will pop up prompting you to connect your Twitch account. Once connected you should be all set for your trigger. This will be the trigger for all of our automation.
Next select add under the “Then That” panel to add your action. Once again search for Twitter in the search box and click on it. You’re going to want to select the option to post a tweet. You should see a screen like this:
This means that when the tweet is posted it will add in the game you are streaming as well as your channel URL. Go ahead and click create action and then continue. Now all that’s left is to review and finish. You can also select to receive an email when your applet triggers if you wish on the review screen.
Posting Your Stream Link To Facebook Pages
The process is nearly identical to posting your stream to Twitter. Go through the steps listed above and instead of searching Twitter, search for Facebook Pages. Choose to add a link post. The app will ask you to connect your Facebook and then to choose a page to post to. It really is quite simple.
