There are 5 different Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Assault Rifles to chose from. The XM4, AK-47, Krig 6, QBZ-83, and FFAR 1, with the Groza coming at the start of Season 1. Assault Rifles work wonders at mid to long-range, especially on maps with long corridors, where players using an SMG can’t creep up on you around a corner. In today’s post, we’re going to rank all of the current Assault Rifles in Black Ops Cold War, starting from the worst and moving up to the number one spot.
5 | QBZ-83
The QBZ-83, to me, is a travesty when it comes to assault rifles in Black Ops Cold War. When I was leveling up all of the ARs, this one by far took me the longest. The damage is subpar when compared to the AK-47, the fire-rate is worse than the FFAR 1, and the recoil is more difficult to control than the Krig 6. It feels like when they made both the XM4 and the QBZ-83, they tried to balance the qualities of the other three rifles. The XM4 did it pretty well, but the QBZ-83 feels like a failed experiment. I’m sure there are plenty of people who don’t believe this Assault Rifle should be at number 5, but I am not one of those people.
4 | FFAR 1
The FFAR 1 is not a bad Assault Rifle by any stretch. The main issue with the gun is low damage. Even with the best attachments the FFAR 1 is like a pea shooter. The fire-rate attempts to make up for this lacking but winds up making the gun semi-uncontrollable at long range. Truth be told, it feels more like an SMG than an Assault Rifle. This makes it the ideal weapon to have at close range and a great option when hip firing. Just remember to avoid long corridors, where the other ARs, Tac Rifles, and Snipers have an advantage.
3 | Krig 6 Cold War Assault Rifle
The Krig 6 is an interesting Black Ops Cold War Assault Rifle. It has mediocre damage, even when compared to the FFAR 1, but it is the best rifle in regards to accuracy. Where it lacks in other areas it makes up for with recoil control. The fire-rate is also pretty decent, not great but not bad either. The Krig 6 is a pretty middle of the road rifle, which is why it’s number 3 on this list.
2 | AK-47
What to say about the AK-47 Assault Rifle in Black Ops Cold War. I’d say this pick almost speaks for itself. The AK-47 is a high-damage, high-recoil rifle that is as effective at engaging enemies at short distances as it is mid to long-range. With the right attachments, the rifle can go from being almost an SMG to almost an LMG, making it a highly versatile and modular weapon. The AK-47 in Cold War is one of a kind and a must-have for any Call of Duty.
1 | The Best Cold War Assault Rifle – XM4
The XM4 is a great gun. Unlike the QBZ-83, it incorporates the best aspects of the other three Assault Rifles. It has moderate damage, moderate fire-rate, and moderate recoil, making it the ideal starting rifle. This is great, considering it is the starting Assault Rifle. The XM4 is significantly improved by high-level attachments, which is true for most guns. The default iron sights provide a great view, meaning you can save an attachment slot, which is huge if you’re not running the Gunfighter Wild Card. All in all the XM4 really deserves its spot as the number 1 Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Assault Rifle.
